About

About the program

For over 30 years, Mary’s House has offered a safe, stable shelter environment, paired with intensive case management and rehousing services, for eight homeless families.  Mary’s House clients are referred directly to the shelter through the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD)'s Emergency Assistance program.

Each family placed into Mary’s House is given the tools necessary to obtain greater stability and independence through a customized and continually-evolving rehousing plan.  With the help of an extensive community network, staff at Mary’s House are trained to identify and provide resources related to trauma, domestic violence, substance abuse, food insecurity, financial instability, health issues and other critical barriers commonly faced by homeless families.

In support of the ultimate goal of locating safe, permanent housing for each family, employees at Mary’s House provide 24/7 on-site supervision and assistance.  As part of their participation with the program, families at Mary’s House are expected to comply with DHCD’s Uniform Shelter Rules, in addition to internal house rules.

Once permanently housed in a non-shelter environment, qualifying clients are provided with stabilization case management services for a minimum of 12 months.  While receiving stabilization support from a trained Case Manager, families will have access to landlord mediation, referrals to an array of outside service providers and other resources meant to increase stability and prevent shelter recidivism.

By partnering with the dedicated, skilled and supportive staff at Mary’s House, families are able to use their time in shelter as a foundation upon which to create meaningful, positive change for years to come.
