MHSA provides intensive, emergency support to those affected by homelessness, substance use disorders and hunger. Our 13 high-impact programs are located in communities across Boston and the Greater Boston area. In partnership with dozens of state, community, educational and service organizations, we give families and individuals the tools to build lasting independence in an empowering and trauma-informed environment.
MHSA Shelter services
For thousands of homeless families and individuals across Massachusetts, MHSA's emergency shelter programs have been more than just a place to call home. Beyond providing temporary lodging, our shelters offer holistic rehousing and case management services, through in-house programming and a wide network of strategic community partnerships.
Our shelter staff emphasizes an individualized approach to rehousing, with a focus on addressing barriers such as employment, education, trauma, domestic violence, mental and physical health, credit, immigration and more.
